Back to school
Today was my first day of classes at Post.
Verdict: thumbs up.
The campus is really nice, the buildings are kept in good order, the classrooms aren’t disgusting (and they all have windows), and the professors I’ve had so far seem to know what they’re talking about/actually give a damn about their students. In short, it’s everything Queens wasn’t for me.
As I was sitting in class, or walking around in between classes, all I got was this good feeling that I was in the right place. It really felt like Post was exactly where I needed to be. I got a similar feeling at Nassau, although it took a few weeks for that to sink it.
Truth be told, though, the way the day started out with me wondering if it was going to be “one of those days.” My first class is at 11, and I got there at about 10:45. I walked into the classroom—room 119—and sat down. A few minutes later, the professor came in, set a pile of syllabuses down, and told everyone to come get one.
So I walked down to the front of the room, picked it up, and read the course title—political science. My first class of the day is an education class, so I started to panic. I checked with the girl sitting behind me to make sure I was in room 119. She confirmed that I was, so I grabbed my stuff and walked out.
I ran over to the registrar’s office, asked them to print out a schedule, and saw my mistake—I was supposed to be in room 109, not 119. Blah. By this time, it was already 11:15, so I ran back to room 109 and walked in twenty minutes late. I was pretty sure that I’d set the tone for the rest of the day, but nothing of the sort happened, so that was a good thing.
I have to head to work pretty soon, but I really don’t want to. I got out early today, so I have a little bit more of a break between getting home and having to head to work, which is nice. I’m not even supposed to show up until around 4:30, so I suppose I’ll just relax at home for a bit longer and then head out.
All in all, today was a very good first day. After my first day at Queens, I wanted to shoot myself, so today was even better by comparison. As long as the rest of the semester is even half this good, I’ll be very happy.
