Someone had better take the fall for this

Dear KeySpan/LIPA,

As you may or may not already know, Route 107 splits off from Route 106 at around Jericho Turnpike. Shortly thereafter, at the entrance to the SUNY Old Westbury campus, 107 goes from being a two-lane road in either direction to a one-lane road.

While I recognize that trimming the tree branches around power lines is a necessary part of maintenance and upkeep, I question your plan to do so in the middle of the day and require the closing of one lane in two separate spots between the aforementioned SUNY campus and Northern Boulevard. Couldn’t you postpone this activity until a less busy time? You could wait until it’s dark out; they have these great things called “lights” now. Turning a road that has one lane for either direction into a road that has one lane for BOTH directions just reeks of stupidity.

While I sat in the line of cars waiting to be allowed through, wondering exactly how late I was going to be for my class at CW Post (fifteen minutes, in case you were wondering), I started thinking about the other travelers around me and where they were going. I can only imagine that some of them would be late for doctor’s appointments, classes, or other things that had a set timeframe.

With this is mind, I humbly request that you begin an investigation into your company to determine who thought it was a good idea to carry out this task in the middle of the day. When the identity of that soul is discovered, I suggest that some measure of discipline should be taken against him or her. At the very least, I feel that it would be wise to put that person in a capacity where they are never called on to make decisions again; however, I feel the penalty should be more severe. (Our electric bills are high enough; you certainly have the resources to carry this out.)

Sincerely,
Andrew Cilento
